Australia Post and Better Packaging have partnered to introduce POLLAST!C satchels, a new line of recycled plastic mailers available online and in Post Offices nationwide.

The satchels are made from certified potential ocean-bound plastic (OBP) collected from coastal regions in Southeast Asia that lack formal waste management systems.

The collaboration aims to tackle plastic waste by repurposing OBP into durable, functional packaging. Richard Pittard, chief sustainability officer at Australia Post, said, “Providing our customers with access to POLLAST!C is part of Australia Post’s efforts to deliver a more sustainable future. Small changes in packaging can lead to big impacts in reducing plastic waste.”

Rebecca Percasky, co-founder of Better Packaging, highlighted the benefits of using recycled materials for mailing satchels, noting that they are well-suited for high post-consumer recycled content and are certified under the Global Recycled Standard and Ocean Bound Plastic Certification. "This partnership showcases how businesses can work together to address global plastic issues while driving demand for sustainable solutions," Percasky said.

The satchels, made from at least 90 per cent recycled OBP, exceed the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation's target of 50 per cent recycled content in packaging by 2025. They are available in three sizes and offer features such as strong adhesive closures, water resistance, and tear durability.

Better Packaging Co., founded in 2018, specialises in regenerative packaging and has collaborated with several Australian brands to develop solutions that reduce environmental impact. This partnership with Australia Post builds on its commitment to creating a circular economy and addressing the global plastic crisis.
