Amcor’s CleanStream technology has added two industry awards to its name, with recognition centred on the system’s polypropylene recycling capabilities in the United Kingdom.

CleanStream was named recycler of the year at the Plastics Industry Awards. It also received the packaging circular economy award at the mrw National Recycling Awards. In addition, Miklos Argyelan, apprentice at Amcor’s Norwich site, was named apprentice or trainee of the year at the Plastics Industry Awards.

CleanStream was also shortlisted in the Material Innovation category at the Plastics Industry Awards and for recycling facility of the year at the mrw National Recycling Awards.

Nigel Purcell, plant director, Amcor CleanStream Leamington Spa, said the recognition reflected the technology’s role in producing post-consumer recycled polypropylene. “The ability to produce the highest quality post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic is critical to ensuring that plastic continues to play a major role as the world transitions to a circular economy,” he said.

According to the company, CleanStream was developed to supply PCR polypropylene at scale to brands in the UK and Europe. Amcor CleanStream Leamington Spa recycles nearly 40 per cent of all collected and sorted PP waste in the United Kingdom. The facility uses multiple sorting stages, including AI-driven identification, sorting and decontamination.

Amcor says the process delivers polymer with consistent physical properties, enabling higher recycled content in a broad range of packs. It notes this assists brands seeking lower-carbon packaging while meeting consumer demand and complying with regulations such as the Plastics Packaging Tax and the PPWR.

The latest industry recognition follows CleanStream’s earlier win in the CSR initiative category at the Luxe Pack in Green awards in September.
