Packaging, printing and binding equipment specialist Ferrostaal has appointed Carsten Wendler managing director of its Australian and New Zealand operations.

Wendler, who has headed up the packaging operation of the company's Australasian business for more than a decade, replaces former CEO and managing director, Markus Haefeli, who had been at the helm of the local business since 2007.

Along with his new role as managing director, Wendler will continue his previous role as the country representative for the range of Bobst products and other packaging equipment.

“After meeting with the CEO of Ferrostaal GmbH and managing director of Ferrostaal’s global equipment solutions earlier in the week and discussing the long term vision of the group for this region and our business portfolio, it was a no-brainer to take the job to put this business on a long-term footing,” Wendler said.

“It is clear that we continue to have core competence from sales to service in our company in this region on a sustainable level and that forms the basis to be a long-term successful company and a viable partner that supports our client base.

Wendler started with Ferrostaal as business development manager in Australia in 1996 and established the packaging division after many successful years around the globe with German folding box gluing machine manufacturer Jagenberg.

He will be supported by Rayne Simpson, who now moves to the position as general manager for Ferrostaal Australia and New Zealand.

Simpson joined Ferrostaal as general manager print finishing in 2009.
