KM Packaging has introduced K-Peel 4G, a mono PET lidding film designed to seal at low temperatures and capable of sealing through contamination.
According to the company, the film delivers a clean peel from PET trays, including APET and rPET, at 110°C with a dwell time of 0.3 seconds. It is available in 21 and 25-micron gauges, with the lower gauge offering potential for material reduction in production.
The film works through food contamination on the production line. KM says it has run tests for the usual set of contaminates such as tomato passata, rapeseed oil and olive oil. Even with these contaminates present (on the seal area of the tray) a seal was still achieved.
The film is also ovenable, compliant with OM7 migration testing, and features anti-fog properties. It can be used for ambient, chilled or frozen applications, and is suitable for sealing to all PET-based trays, including PET-lined board trays and PET-lacquered foils.
Alan Lockhart, commercial director UK & Eire at KM Packaging, said, “The advantages of a low seal initiation temperature means K-Peel 4G has a broad range of lidding applications across the industry.”
Lockhart also addressed the impact of upcoming Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation, stating, “Whilst the impact of EPR and RAM may question the cost impact on PET based films, ultimately their efficiency, low weight, ovenability and ease of use prove that they still have a relevant and valuable place in the tray sealing and lidding film arena.”
Trial reels of K-Peel 4G are now available.
