Amcor is producing a 25ml skincare stick applicator for Decathlon using recycled polypropylene (rPP) from its CleanStream technology.

The mono-material stick contains 87 per cent rPP and, according to Amcor, offers a 17 per cent lower CO2 impact compared to virgin resin. Amcor says the applicator is also “recycle-ready” where suitable infrastructure exists.

Decathlon is using the format for two products: an anti-chafing stick and an SPF50+ sunscreen stick. Both are positioned as convenient for users to apply on the move, with Amcor noting that the wide surface area allows quick application while remaining compact for transport.

Laurent Dujardin, product & pack engineer, Health & Sports Accessories at Decathlon, said, “Our customers want a quality product that they can easily use on the move, so the stick format is ideal. We challenged ourselves to also provide a more sustainable option that would still deliver the high performance.”

Decathlon cites its wider environmental target to reduce absolute Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 42 per cent by 2030 from a 2021 baseline. The company says using CleanStream aligns with this effort. CleanStream mechanically recycles household PP waste into recycled plastic suitable for contact-sensitive applications using automated identification, sorting and decontamination.

The anti-chafing stick was designed by a team of athletes with a focus on hands-free application and portability. The same considerations apply to the sunscreen stick, which is water and sweat-resistant.

Marine Sueur, sales director, France at Amcor, said, “The ability to include rPP through our proprietary CleanStream technology means we can offer brands like Decathlon the perfect combination of convenience, performance and environmental responsibility.”

Food & Drink Business

Our Top 100 2025 edition of Food & Drink Business magazine is more than the annual flagship Top 100 Report. Industry leaders reflect on the year past and the one ahead, we provide our annual news review, M&A wrap-up, and all the executive moves, and a Roman-inspired sports drink, Posca, is our final Rising Star for 2025.

A blend of salt, red wine vinegar, and water – known as Posca – was the ‘original sports drink’, helping to keep the soldiers of the Roman Empire marching up to 30 kilometres per day. Keira Joyce spoke with Posca Hydrate co-founders, Merrick Watts and Ed Stening, about reviving a 2000-year-old functional beverage for the modern healthy lifestyle.
