Gas and engineering company, BOC, has begun supplying carbon dioxide (CO2) to industry from its new CO2 processing facility in Longford, Victoria. First announced in August 2023, the company said the output of beverage-grade CO2 would make it the largest merchant supplier in the South Pacific.
Construction of the facility was completed in December 2024, with the commissioning phase continuing throughout January and February 2025. It can produce more than 60,000 tonnes of beverage-grade liquid CO2 annually, and will support Australian companies in the medical, food processing, beverage, hospitality, and manufacturing industries.

BOC is owned by the Linde Group, a global supplier of industrial, process and speciality gases.
Linde South Pacific managing director and Head of BOC, Theo Martin, said CO2 from the new facility would make an immediate positive impact on Australia’s CO2 production capacity and has the ability to back up the New Zealand market.
"We are excited by the opportunity our new CO2 processing facility in Longford presents for both our business and our customers,” said Martin.
“Capable of producing such a large amount of beverage-grade CO2 annually, this plant significantly increases BOC’s national CO2 production capacity and will improve reliability of supply to our customers, particularly those on the east coast of Australia and beyond.”
Construction of the Longford facility is part of a long-term supply agreement with the Gippsland Basin Joint Venture (GBJV), a 50-50 joint venture between Esso Australia Resources and Woodside Energy. Under the agreement, GBJV will capture and send CO2 from its Longford Gas Conditioning Plant directly to BOC's new facility.
The company stated the Longford CO2 processing facility features the latest Linde technologies and quality control processes to provide the highest standard of CO2.
