In a strategic move to streamline the production, filling and packaging of PET containers, Krones, specialising in beverage packaging and processing machinery, has introduced Prefero, an innovative solution aimed at transforming the plastics cycle.

The acquisition of Netstal Maschinen AG earlier this year has empowered Krones to offer a comprehensive solution for every stage in the plastic loop. This includes injection moulding technology, essential PET production tools like MHT, and the Contiform series for stretch blow moulding.

Additionally, Krones boasts competencies in preform and container design, alongside MetaPure plastics recycling systems and robust digitalisation solutions.

“For Krones, filling and packaging lines are not just made up of many individual machines that are linked together. What counts for us is the interaction of all components to form a single unit. With Prefero, we are now harmonising precisely this line concept with the plastics loop and the associated Krones solutions,” explains Jochen Hirdina, head of Plastics Technology at Krones.

“This overall solution expertise is also the basis for us to be able to exploit the opportunities of digitalisation,” continues Hirdina.

With the introduction of Prefero, Krones now stands as the sole supplier capable of covering the entire value chain of the PET beverage industry with its proprietary portfolio.

“Netstal will remain independent in the future and offer its portfolio for preforms, closures, packaging technology, and medical technology. While Krones with Prefero concentrates on complete PET systems from preforms to filling and packaging, Netstal’s injection moulding technology focuses on production systems consisting of injection moulding machines, moulds, and peripherals,” highlights Hirdina.

“In future, for example, Netstal will also benefit from the worldwide Krones set-up and thus be even closer to its customers.”

Prefero marks a significant step forward for Krones, cementing its position as an industry leader in beverage packaging and processing machinery. The integration of Prefero underscores Krones’ commitment to innovation and sustainability, driving positive change throughout the PET container production landscape.

The team that shook up Australia’s cracker market segment is back, this time with the snack category in its sights. After selling Gourmet Food Holdings and brands including OB Finest and Olina’s Bakehouse to Mondēlez International in early 2021, the seasoned FMCG operators have launched SnackHQ and its first brand, ReFil.

Victorian food manufacturer and distributor, Katoomba Global Foods (KG Foods), has acquired Paris Creek Farms (PCF) from Maggie Beer Holdings (MBH), three years after the company first announced it would offload its dairy assets.

The latest research from IWSR has shown that overall growth is slowing in Asia Pacific’s beverage alcohol scene. A market that has previously been strongly driven by Australia is undergoing significant change as alcohol consumption declines, with emerging regions taking the lead.
