The Australasian Institute of Packaging (AIP) will deliver two flexible packaging-focused training sessions in New Zealand on 4 September, during the Foodtech Packtech trade show at Auckland Showgrounds.
The short courses: Understanding the Fundamentals of Flexible Packaging and The Future of Flexible Packaging Design, are part of AIP’s globally recognised education program. Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance and six points per course toward the Certified Packaging Professional (CPP) designation.
The first course will provide an overview of the role and benefits of flexible packaging, how structures are selected based on product needs, and key manufacturing considerations. According to the AIP, the course will also explore how flexible packaging contributes to shelf life extension, product protection, and material efficiency.
The AIP says that lifecycle attributes and ongoing innovations have enabled manufacturers to reduce natural resource use, lower emissions and energy consumption, and minimise volatile organic compounds in production.
The second course will focus on the evolving future of flexible packaging design in the context of sustainability pressures and regulatory changes. Topics include food waste, carbon emissions, legislation, labelling requirements, and soft plastic recycling challenges.
Learning objectives outlined by the AIP include:
- The role of flexible packaging in the supply chain,
- Materials that may lead to more sustainable outcomes,
- Key drivers influencing the category,
- Industry obligations for brand owners and suppliers, and
- Resources available to navigate ongoing changes in packaging regulations and expectations.
