Family-owned Adelaide Hills’ craft distillery, Ambleside Distillers, has unveiled a fresh new look with logo and labels, and a bespoke bottle design, custom made at UniquePak.

The logo is a nod to the three family members who founded Ambleside – Matt, Trudy and Steve Dickson , and according to the trio, has been designed to "perfectly reflect the company’s independent, family ethos while also capturing the attention of customers both old and new" with its striking aesthetic.

The labels, printed by CCL Label in the Barossa Valley, are designed to be eye-catching and perfectly depict the company’s ‘big spirit’, literally and metaphorically.

The logo also reflects the distillery's location in the Adelaide Hills valley, portrayed through the arrow-like design, which was subtly hinted at on previous packaging but more explicitly displayed on the new bottle.

Matt says the custom-designed bottle is one-of-a-kind. "It's lighter, easy to hold and pour, and has a reduced environmental footprint," he said, explaining that in-house team at Ambleside curated the new look and feel, with support from local creative agency Black Squid Design.

"We wanted something uniquely Ambleside, so we created a bottle shape that incorporates a glass blown logo. The glass is much thinner, with basically no base, meaning it’s a lot lighter for shipping, and more sustainable to ship. The shoulder is easier for bartenders and people at home alike to use, and more comfortable to hold.

"Our bottles are custom made at UniquePak," said Matt, confirming that the distillery is using new shippers, which are slightly smaller to tightly fit the new, narrower bottle design.

The labels, printed by CCL Label in the Barossa Valley, are "unashamedly bold and bright", he explains, pointing out that the three core colours of earthy green, vibrant blue and burnt orange are designed to be eye-catching and to "perfectly depict" the company’s ‘big spirit’, literally and metaphorically.

“We launched our expanded distillery space last year, and as we work on our growth plans, it seemed the time was right to freshen our look. We’re a ‘big spirited’ family and we want to demonstrate that philosophy visually, at our home in the Adelaide Hills and through the way we present ourselves externally. The independent craft spirits sector has gone from strength to strength in recent years, and we want to ensure we can stand out from the crowd, and that our personality exudes throughout all we do," added Matt.

Ambleside Distillers was founded in 2016 by Matt, Trudy and Steve and since then has become one of South Australia’s highly awarded, and it says, most-loved spirits brands.

Lte last year it expanded its production space, to factor in future demand and to diversify its offering beyond gin, with the installation of a 1250 litre whisky still. Located on the family acreage close to Hahndorf, Ambleside Distillers was built ‘from the garden up’, with an emphasis on ingredients and flavours that thrive in the Adelaide Hills including botanicals grown in the onsite garden.

Food & Drink Business

Fonterra has announced Anna Palairet is the new chief operating officer, having acted in the role since June 2023. CEO Miles Hurrell says Palairet has “extensive experience in operational, customer, sustainability, and sales roles”.

Food & Drink Business editor Kim Berry's take on the big news stories this week, and what caught her eye overseas. How will the Future Made in Australia Act actually be delivered? Shanghai trials traffic light labelling, and Solar Food, making protein out of (virtually) nothing at all, opens its commercial scale facility (that's it in the pic).

Food Frontier’s industry leading annual alternative proteins conference, AltProteins 24, is on in Melbourne on 10 October, with early bird tickets now available.
