PKN talks... Guiding brands through governance and green goals.

In this episode, Lindy Hughson, managing editor and publisher of PKN Packaging News, is joined by Zaidee Jackson, the national business development manager of Sustainable Packaging at Ball & Doggett.

We kick off our discussion by celebrating some of Zaidee’s recent industry award recognition, including PKN's 2025 Women in Packaging Award for Communications and Marketing Excellence, while also reflecting on how the industry resource Ecoporium, developed by Zaidee and her team, has evolved into a platform for education and networking that also helps maintain awareness of the latest sustainability initiatives and constantly changing governance frameworks.

We also review the primary difficulties faced by customers keeping up with such changes, the complexity and additional resourcing required to meet sustainability targets, and Ball & Doggett's role as a converter to guide suppliers and brands into the right outcomes.

We wrap up by discussing APCO’s decision to pause on EPR fees and get some fun insights into the content that Zaidee is engaging with, then circle back to some favourite packaging on the shelves and what is in store for the year ahead.

Food & Drink Business

Woolworths has confirmed the return of in-store soft plastics collection points across more than 700 supermarkets nationally, with South Australia the latest state to join the renewed recycling scheme this week.

For many growing businesses, passion and purpose are what spark success in the early years. But as a company expands, instinct alone is no longer enough. Sustainable growth requires a clear strategy, a deep understanding of customers, and the ability to adapt as markets evolve. Gewürzhaus co-founder and managing director, Maria Konecsny shares insights from establishing a specialty herb and spice business that has expanded across Australia.

FOODiQ Global has completed a 28-year analysis of Australian non-alcoholic drink sales, revealing a strong swing towards water and low- and no-sugar carbonated drinks for consumer choices in the beverage aisle. The study was commissioned by the Australian Beverages Council.
