As the PKN Podcast celebrates its milestone 100th episode, industry insiders Lindy Hughson and Wayne Robinson share insights, trends, and inspiring stories shaping the future of packaging.

In this episode, Lindy Hughson, Managing Editor & Publisher of PKN Packaging News, is joined by Wayne Robinson, Associate Editor of PKN and Editor of Print21, to discuss Lindy's recent globetrotting to attend a number of events at home and abroad, bringing you updates from the dynamic global packaging industry.

We begin by celebrating our 100th episode of PKN and we review the trends from the APCO awards which were hosted by Lindy and Wayne. The discussion also explores Lindy’s packaging expeditions with highlights from Tokyo Pack with the major theme being sustainability, PackExpo International in Chicago, which had a lot of machinery and material innovations on show, and key ideas emerging from the Sustainable Packaging Summit in Amsterdam, which also hosted the Sustainable Packaging Awards and, separately, the Smart Packaging Congress.

We wrap up with Lindy’s real-world comparison between international packaging trends and the products we see on our shelves in Australia.

Food & Drink Business

The Victorian government has invested $160,000 to support the sustainability and profitability of the state’s wine industry, matched by $240,000 from Wine Australia. The funds will help Wine Victoria to provide the wine industry with the knowledge, tools and resources needed to improve practices and outcomes.

Australian spirits producers had an outstanding showing at the 2025 International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC) in London, with top scoring producers including 30 Knots Spirits, Australian Distilling Co., Ester Distilling, Mt. Uncle Distillery, Nine Circles Distillery, and Turner Stillhouse.

The recent innovation forum hosted by the Australian Marketing Institute and research company, T Garage, examined the reality for the rapidly evolving landscape of consumer goods that innovation is now table stakes. Experts from three of Australia's Top 100 food and drink companies shared their experiences and confirmed innovation is not just a corporate strategy, but a mindset permeating personal and professional life.
