Visy held its first-ever joint energy summit on decarbonisation in paper production with global technology company Voith Group.

The summit featured the latest solutions and proven technologies for energy efficiency, cost savings, and operational improvements.

In his opening address, Jean-Yves Nouaze, executive general manager at Visy Pulp & Paper, talked about the company’s strategy for decarbonisation and energy security.

“We have a relentless focus on energy efficiency across its pulp and paper factories, developing its own energy supply through on-site clean energy plants,” said Nouaze.

“Our summit is an important way for us to stay up-to-date with state-of-the-art solutions and proven technologies to further drive energy efficiency.

“By bringing experts together in one room, we have been able to generate new insights and share expertise.”

Nouaze also said the company is ensuring it remains a part of state and national policy discussions and development moving forward.

The summit also included experts presenting leading technologies and solutions, a cross-company decarbonisation workshop for sustainable paper production, and a focus on measures and projects to help achieve decarbonisation goals.

Attendees enjoyed the ‘World Cafe’ format to facilitate conversation in small groups, which rotate through multiple topics, encouraging new ideas and sharing knowledge.

Food & Drink Business

Welcome to the latest issue of Food & Drink Business, the first quarterly issue for 2026. It has been an interesting start to the year, one that felt noticeably buoyant at the outset but has settled back into a sense of grim determination. And if there is one thing food and beverage manufacturers have, it is determination. But there is an ingenuity and a tenacity that kicks in when the economic environment is less than ideal.

Almond processor Select Harvests has announced the resignation of CEO and managing director, David Surveyor, marking the end of a three-year tenure that saw the business return to profitability.

Lineage director business development, Christian Rossow, looks at why the infrastructure connecting producers to ports and global supply chains is just as vital as product quality.
