Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic) has recycled more than 3 billion cans and bottles since it launched, returning over $300 million directly to Victorians.

“Through the scheme, eligible containers are being diverted from landfill and reprocessed into new products,” CDS Vic said.

The scheme operates through more than 600 deposit points across the state. Victorians returned a record 34.85 million drink containers in the week commencing 12 January 2026, the highest weekly total since CDS Vic began. The program offers a 10-cent refund for each eligible drink container, aiming to keep materials out of landfill and support a circular economy.

“CDS Vic has become a reliable fundraising source for charities, community organisations and sporting clubs across Victoria,” the program said. The Good Friday Appeal has collected more than $102,000 thanks to Victorian donors, while the Kangaroo Flat Bowls Club has raised over $5,000 to help with upkeep of its premises, CDS Vic noted.

Visy is the north zone operator for CDS Vic, operating over 230 refund points from Mildura to Melbourne CBD. “This makes it easier for Victorians to get involved,” Visy said.
