Amcor’s 5.5 litre SuperLift Extra and 5.8 litre SuperFlex industrial containers, made at its Pamplona, Spain facility, are UN certified and contain 50 per cent post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic.

The certification covers storage and transport of solid and powdered hazardous goods, including chemicals, medical waste and automotive products, when used with the 40 µ thick internal LDPE bag required for UN approval. The SuperFlex container can also be fitted with a child-proof lid, preventing access for children under 51 months while remaining accessible to adults.

“This latest UN certification is an important development, which we believe will benefit many businesses throughout Europe,” said Ignacio Igea, sales director industrial, Spain, Portugal & Italy for Amcor Rigid Packaging Solutions International. “While companies naturally wish to adopt more sustainable packaging solutions, it is equally important to maintain a container’s overall performance, and this is especially critical for hazardous goods. Our UN containers with PCR content continue to offer optimal security and reliability, meeting the strict demands of the UN approval procedures.”

The Pamplona factory, along with Amcor facilities in Besançon and La Genête, France, and Lubien, Poland, also holds RecyClass certification. This allows Amcor to offer RecyClass labelling on non-food packaging, validating recyclability and the use of recycled materials.

Amcor says the containers’ design optimises storage, reduces noise on filling lines and allows easy handling. A range of decoration options is available for branding. The company expects demand for the containers in applications such as swimming pool chemicals and treatments, while the 50 per cent PCR content may help customers meet EU and national packaging regulations.
