Henkel’s Packaging Recyclab Shanghai has been accredited by the cyclos-HTP Institute (CHI) to carry out EU paper packaging recyclability testing and issue EU-recognised external test assessment reports.
The accreditation allows packaging manufacturers, converters and brand owners in Asia-Pacific to conduct recognised European paper packaging recyclability testing locally, rather than sending samples to Europe.
The Packaging Recyclab Shanghai applies two European paper packaging recyclability test protocols: CEPI/4evergreen and CHI.
Henkel said the facility will support companies preparing for the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which includes requirements covering packaging design, recyclability, recycled content, hazardous substances and reuse, as well as extended producer responsibility obligations.

It underscores Henkel’s long-term commitment to China and the wider region, and it represents another significant step in helping local businesses meet stringent global market entry requirements.”
The facility currently focuses on paper packaging, with Henkel preparing to add plastic packaging recyclability assessments. The company said it plans to expand the testing scope to other export packaging categories over time.
The Shanghai facility is part of Henkel’s Packaging Recyclab network, alongside its facility in Düsseldorf, Germany. It is integrated into Henkel’s global Inspiration Center network, where customers can explore and test packaging solutions through development and recyclability assessment.
