Globally esteemed plastics industry thought leader, Prof. Edward Kosior, managing director of Nextek and NEXTLOOPP, will be one of the keynote speakers at the Plastics and Circular Economy (PCE) 2024 conference, run by the Society of Plastics Engineers and held online on 21-22 October.

The "Plastics and Circular Economy 2024 Australian Update" webinar, hosted by the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE: A-NZ), will focus on Australia's transition to a circular economy, with a particular emphasis on plastic management.

Kosior, an expert in plastics recycling, will address key developments in packaging technology, particularly in the field of food-grade recycled plastics. With a career spanning over 45 years, he has focused on innovations such as super-clean recycling technologies, removing odours from plastics, and reducing the carbon footprint of packaging through recycled content.

Kosior's contributions to sustainability in plastics have been recognised globally. NEXTLOOPP, under his leadership, received the World Star Award for Sustainability in 2021 for its recycled food-grade PP project. Additionally, Nextek was named a finalist for the Alliance Prize by the Alliance to End Plastic Waste in 2022.

Nextek won the IOM3’s Circular Economy Award with COtooCLEAN, a unique supercritical carbon dioxide (ScCO2) cleaning process, which effectively and efficiently cleans and decontaminates post-consumer polyolefin films to a food-grade status.

The PCE 2024 conference will address various topics related to Australia’s shift towards a circular economy, emphasising the role of plastics. The event, aimed at industry professionals and policymakers, will feature panel discussions and expert sessions on key issues and trends in plastic recycling and sustainability.

Kosior's insights, alongside other experts, will shed light on the future of packaging and its impact on global environmental efforts.
