Borrow by Huskee has launched a web app that allows customers to borrow reusable cups without downloading an app or creating an account.
Customers can scan a QR code and borrow a cup through their phone’s browser, then return it at any participating location or smart bin.
The web app is designed to provide a simpler entry point for new and occasional users, who can later move to the Borrow mobile app for additional features.
"We built Borrow by Huskee to make reuse the easy choice, not the extra step," said Saxon Wright, Huskee co-founder and chief sustainability officer at BioPak.
"By making it easier for people to try Borrow for the first time, we're helping remove some of the friction around reuse and making it a more accessible option for everyday coffee drinkers."
The Borrow mobile app will remain available for regular users, offering deposit-free borrowing, extended borrow time, loyalty rewards, a cup library and a map of participating locations.
Borrow by Huskee launched in Barangaroo, Sydney last year and now operates across 35 cafes and three corporate buildings in Australia. The scheme recently launched at Carriageworks in Sydney, where around 1,600 reusable cups rotate across three vendors.
The new web app is available to smartphone users.
