The company says the FSC label ensures packaging materials come from responsibly managed forests, reclaimed, or controlled sources. Gary Smith, CEO at BioPak, said, “The Earth loses 18.7 million acres of forests per year, which is equal to 27 soccer fields every minute. Continuing at this rate could have devastating environmental and social impacts.”

Smith added that FSC certification rules out illegal harvesting, destruction of critical ecosystems, and human rights violations. “By choosing FSC-certified packaging, businesses and consumers can directly contribute to forest preservation,” he said.

Lea Maguero, head of sustainability at BioPak, said there are ten principles a forest must meet to gain FSC certification. “An FSC certification deems products as responsible, providing environmental, social, and economic benefits based on both the lifecycle of the product and how it came to be,” she said.

Melanie Robertson, CEO at FSC, said BioPak has shown commitment through its FSC Chain of Custody certification for more than a decade. She said: “By championing FSC-certified products this FSC Forest Week and beyond, they are helping to safeguard forests, biodiversity and communities, while calling on the wider industry to take responsibility and ensure credibility across supply chains.”

BioPak makes foodservice packaging from renewable, sustainably sourced materials, including FSC-certified paper and birchwood. The company holds FSC licence number C110879.
