BioPak has introduced the new leaf Nature Series in collaboration with Rainforest Rescue, celebrating Australia’s unique and diverse plants. The updated design for the iconic Leaf BioCup, originally launched in 2006, was revealed ahead of World Rainforest Day on 22 June.

The new BioPak leaf cup Nature Series features rotating designs that highlight the tree planted to rehabilitate biodiverse areas. This initial release includes three leaf designs: ylang ylang, bleeding heart, and flame tree.

Gary Smith, CEO of BioPak, said, “We are truly proud to bring this concept to life and to celebrate and raise awareness of the precious plants and ecosystems that exist on our great planet. The Leaf BioPak was designed nearly two decades ago, and it is wonderful to see this new adaptation continue the legacy of our sustainable ethos.”

The collaboration with Rainforest Rescue is central to this project. “At BioPak, a core part of our purpose and ‘why’ is underpinned by community, and we are delighted to collaborate with Rainforest Rescue as part of this project to help share our commitment to the planet with coffee lovers across Australia,” Smith added.

Branden Barber, CEO of Rainforest Rescue, commented on the partnership’s significance, “We are truly excited to continue our long-standing partnership with BioPak to build awareness and share stories on some of the unique plants that exist on our beautiful planet. At Rainforest Rescue, our goal is to protect and restore rainforests, and we hope this new series can spark conversations, build on knowledge, and encourage people to support the protection of rainforests and biodiversity.”

Rainforest Rescue Leaf BioCup Series are lined with PLA and available in single-wall and double-wall industrially compostable (AS4736) BioCups.

Since 2012, BioPak has donated one per cent of profits to Rainforest Rescue. These contributions have helped secure, rescue, and replant land in the Daintree Rainforest, protecting its unique flora and fauna.

To date, Rainforest Rescue has planted or rescued 90,947 trees, purchased eight hectares of land, and sequestered 2227 tonnes of carbon.

The new leaf series will be available to cafes and businesses across Australia later in the year.

Twelve months after bringing four businesses together under the SPC Global banner, CEO Robert Iervasi says the biggest shift has been cultural as much as financial: the company has moved from making what it can and “finding a home” for it, to building the portfolio around what consumers want, in the channels where demand is strongest.

The federal government is backing the development of a National Vineyard Register – a major Wine Australia project that aims to support a more sustainable future for Australia’s wine and grape industry.
