Winner of the Large Retailer Industry Sector award in this year's APCO Awards is Officeworks Ltd, with outstanding results reflected in its APCO Annual Report.

Officeworks has integrated the 2025 National Packaging Targets into its Sustainable Packaging Policy, which prioritises circular design among other sustainability principles.

This reporting period, the team has included either recycled or renewable content within 98 per cent of all packaging and labelled nearly 60 per cent with the Australasian Recycling Label (ARL).

The company supported this through developing a Sustainable Packaging Roadmap and Dashboard and reviewing nearly three thousand packaging SKUs against the Sustainable Packaging Guideline. As a result, Officeworks redesigned larger packaging formats to remove polystyrene and achieve optimisation across nearly 40 per cent of all packaging products.

Additionally, already committed to diverting at least 90 per cent of all waste from landfill by 2020, 2019 saw Officeworks successfully divert 84 per cent of operational waste from landfill and actively engage both suppliers and customers around the importance of packaging sustainability and waste diversion.

Entries are now open for the annual Melbourne Royal Australian Food Awards. Open to commercial food producers of all sizes, it is one of the largest programs of its kind. 

Victorian brewery, Bodriggy Brewing Co, is the first brewery in the state to achieve carbon-neutral certification and only the second in Australia to do so. The independent Abbotsford-based brewery achieved certification under the federal government’s Climate Active program.

According to Rabobank data, Australian consumers are facing higher chocolate prices heading into Easter, with retail chocolate prices up 8.8 per cent on the previous year as global cocoa prices soar.
