Amcor has received two AmeriStar awards from the Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP) for its AmPrima recycle ready 150ml refill pouch and HealthCare reclosable pouch.
The AmPrima refill pouch was recognised in the Health and Beauty Aids category, while the HealthCare reclosable pouch received an award in the Drug and Pharmaceutical category.
The 150ml refill pouch contains 94 per cent less plastic than three standard 50ml PET jars with lidding. According to an Amcor ASSET life cycle assessment, the pouch reduces carbon footprint and non-renewable primary energy demand by 76 per cent and water consumption by 80 per cent.
The pouch uses Amcor’s AmPrima recycle ready film technology, which is designed to withstand high-temperature filling while maintaining seal and spout integrity. It is also designed to meet Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) Critical Guidance Testing.
“This is a significant advancement in flexible packaging, achieving the heat resistance, barrier performance, machinability, functionality and aesthetics that the beauty industry expects, all while reducing environmental impact,” said Olivia Downs, marketing manager at Amcor Flexibles North America.
The HealthCare reclosable pouch is designed for gummy vitamins and uses Amcor HealthCare recycle ready film. The film is designed to meet the APR Design Guide for Recyclability and is pre-qualified by How2Recycle for recycling through the store drop-off polyethylene stream.
Compared with a standard PET bottle, Amcor’s ASSET life cycle assessment found the pouch reduces carbon footprint by 83 per cent, non-renewable primary energy demand by 79 per cent and water consumption by 76 per cent.
The pouch also includes an oxygen and moisture barrier, a window showing the product and a child-resistant zipper.
“The Amcor HealthCare reclosable pouch is a breakthrough technology for the consumer health market, meeting the rising demand for more sustainable packaging,” said Brian Ingraham, senior R&D director at Amcor Flexibles North America.
The winning packages will be showcased at PACK EXPO International from 18 to 21 October 2026, at the IoPP booth N-4560 and the Showcase of Packaging Innovations. Amcor will also display the technologies at its booth, S-3500.
