The Australasian Institute of Packaging (AIP) has partnered with Packaging Cockpit to bring the company's packaging specification management software to Australia, New Zealand and parts of Southeast Asia.

Nerida Kelton, executive director of the AIP, said the software is suited to Australasian companies exporting to Europe and can help businesses meet the requirements of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

"The Packaging Cockpit is a tool that calculates the technical recyclability, as well as the life cycle assessment of packaging systems, scientific calculations and enables data interface with suppliers and brands," Kelton said.

She said the software can be used to complete declarations of conformity, technical documentation and access packaging suppliers' specifications.

Kelton said Packaging Cockpit is intended to support packaging portfolio management across entire supply chains by integrating scientific databases and calculation methods for large datasets.

The software can also support compliance with other extended producer responsibility regulations globally, with calculations available for different countries to enable country-specific evaluations.

According to Kelton, the basic version of Packaging Cockpit is available free of charge, allowing both large companies and SMEs to undertake reporting and regulatory requirements.

Under the partnership, the AIP becomes the exclusive Packaging Cockpit partner for Australia, New Zealand and parts of Southeast Asia, and will facilitate access to software trials, demonstrations and the basic version through the institute.
