Jameson is the world's largest selling Irish whiskey and the brand has been around since 1780.

For the last four years, its Irish distiller, Pernod Ricard, has commissioned a limited edition design for its bottles in celebration of St Patrick’s Day.

This year's is a vibrantly modern and edgy departure from the regular heraldic paper label, and is designed by Irish illustrator, Dermot Flynn. It features the renowned Dublin pub, The Stag’s Head; historical figures such as WB Yeats; and a selection of Dublin phrases – and will be sold for a limited period in 40 markets throughout the world, including Australia.

Daniel Lundberg, global brand director for Jameson, said, “In addition to its taste, one of the things that whiskey fans around the world tell us they love about Jameson is its intrinsic Irish character. Jameson embodies the down-to-earth character of Dubliners so with this new limited edition, we wanted to bring that to life and celebrate the great city which inspired John Jameson to make his whiskey for the first time over 230 years ago. The new bottle design has been very well-received by our customers around the world resulting in more markets than ever selling this year’s edition, so we’re hopeful that Irish whiskey fans around the world will love it too and make it a part of their special St Patrick’s Day celebrations, wherever they may be.”

Meanwhile, Ardagh Group has created a very different limited edition bottle, with three different depths of glass embossing giving it both a distinctive look and a tactile point of difference. The product design team at Ardagh have succeeded in replicating the one litre bottle’s existing paper label detail entirely in glass.

A few changes were made. Some of the original graphics were too thin or small to form in glass, so these details were opened out and increased in size to ensure a high quality of definition, while the overall design was maintained.

The de-bossed seal feature on the bottle was developed to house an insert made from metal provided by steel specialist, Signet Marking Devices. The seal was developed to sit just above and to be in line with the lower eyebrow feature and the transition from glass to the installed insert is invisible. So the seal looks like an integral part of the glass container.

Food & Drink Business

As consumers lean towards functional food and beverages, the sports and energy drink market is leading the charge. Market research company, IMARC Group, has released its Australia Sports and Energy Drinks Market report for 2024, outlining current trends and expected growth over the next decade.

The International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) ANZ Produce Executive Program (PEP), a leadership and business development program for the fresh produce industry, will make its New Zealand debut from 17-22 August.

Thomas Foods International has moved from two shifts to one extended single shift at its Lobethal processing facility, due to drought and lower livestock supply. The company said it was a “difficult but necessary decision”, given current market conditions.
