Schawk Australia will employ an extra six prepress experts after being appointed to oversee grocery giant Woolworths' local packaging.

The new staff will work from an onsite facility at Woolworths' headquarters in Sydney, undertaking print liaison with clients and suppliers, project management tasks, and colour management.

Schawk is a global prepress company providing production, premedia, and print services. A local division of the company will be handling Woolworths' local graphics.

Schawk Australia operations manager Ryan Sharratt said this was good news for the packaging industry as the roles were previously outsourced.

“Growth and new employment in packaging and print is always positive, given the pressures the industry continues to face,” he said.

“We have appointed specialists in prepress retail packaging who understand the unique requirements of onsite client liaison and are able to integrate well within our extensive deployment capabilities.”

Sharratt said Schawk had also invested in new proofing technology with the Epson SureColor SC P9070.

“This will further enhance Woolworths' on-shelf packaging appeal,” he said.

SGK Australia, a division of Matthews International Corporation, is Schawk’s parent company.

The new onsite staff will grow SGK’s Australian workforce to more than 70 people.
