Webstercare's innovative Personal Medication Planner (PMP), a packaging solution for the elderly to help manage their medication requirements, has been recognised by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) in its prestigious WorldStar Packaging Awards.

The Australian-designed PMP was named the winner in the Medical and Pharmaceutical Category of the awards, building on its triumph at last year's Packaging Council of Australia (PCA) Awards, where it won the Gold Award for Accessibility (PKN, Nov-Dec 2012, page 17).

The managing director of Webstercare, Gerard Stevens, was told the news of the win just before Christmas. He will be officially presented with the global award at an evening dinner and presentation ceremony in Sydney on 9 May, during the AUSPACK PLUS 2013 exhibition.

Webstercare's PMP was eligible for the WorldStar Award following its PCA win. The awards are open only to organisations who have won in an approved national competition around the world.

The WorldStar Competition is in its 44th year. It highlights and demonstrates the continual advancement in packaging while creating a dynamic standard of international packaging excellence from which others may learn.

“We are honoured our packaging design has been recognised at both a national and international level,” Stevens said.

He said the PMP, was specifically designed for the 'young' older Australians who are out and about, focusing on life and good health – and making sure they look after their medication requirements.

“The PMP is a portable, lightweight disposable package that protects medication from damage, spilling or spoiling, while stored in a handbag, luggage or sitting on a kitchen shelf,” he explained.

“Your local community pharmacy can pack all your weekly medications in the PMP. It lists your complete medication profile and enables you to keep track of what you have taken and when.

“It is the ideal tool to support managing multiple medications while leading a busy life.

“We are thrilled that these awards recognise how vital packaging is in the healthcare arena," Stevens said..

“This award is an enormous achievement for us. It shows that we have done what we set out to do, create a new design that integrates all the elements needed to support an individual’s commitment to great health while enjoying life.”
