Milk Money Vodka is a 40% abv spirit distilled from milk sugars. It is made in New Zealand where there are a lot of cows. It is not your average vodka.

“Because the product is so different, we’ve had a tough time convincing distributors to pick us up, but slowly they’re coming around as more and more people demand the vodka distilled from milk,” said Garren Vissar, president of Leche Spirits in New Mexico, the importer that launched the product in the US at the beginning of the year.

“Once you try it, you’ll know you’re drinking something in a category of its own.”

To launch the unusual vodka, Vissar enlisted the help of packaging specialist, Saxco International.

Jimmy Owens, new product representative for Saxco International recounted, “Our role was to help create a package that would carry through with the new brand’s milk-related theme by developing a design which also displayed a noteworthy eye appeal and bold shelf presence.”

The first job Owens took on was to source a 'milk bottle' shaped 750-ml glass. He eventually found it at Vetreria Etrusca in Italy.

Saxco also sourced and supplied a metal hinged swing-top closure with white plastic cap and commissioned US packaging solutions company, RockTenn, to design and produce a six-bottle white shipping carton with black imprint to continue the dairy reference.

A decorative design image mirroring the spots on a Holstein cow was screened on the front and back of the bottle by Canadian packaging printing specialists, Serigraphie-Richford. The decorative design image was created by Johannes Schulz of Germany.

“We knew we wanted it to be the Holstein design and keep an old school milk bottle feel, but with a modern twist on it,” Vissar stated.
