The PCA Southern Cross Packaging Design Awards are where companies now get to observe the talent of the future and their ideas. The 29th Southern Cross Awards received 400 entries from 30 institutes across Australia including Universities, TAFE’s and private colleges.

The students had six categories to choose from - Accessibility & Legibility; Packaging for Today’s Consumer;Tinplate: Change & Innovation; Australian Craft Spirit Glass Package; Redesign a P&G Branded Product; and Special Occasion Package.

Senior judge, Ian Hayes, applauded all the entrants, “On behalf of the panel, congratulations to every student that entered. The students’ inventiveness and creativity continues to amaze and delight. Once again, determining the winners was a great challenge for the panel. This is simply down to the high quality of the entries; how well they have been researched, reviewed and prototyped leading to each student’s final entry. Thank you also to the lecturers who continue to support and see the value that these awards provide the students.

After not having a Judges Rationale Winner in 2013, it was pleasing to see students shift the focus back to the importance of communication, through the rationale. We were delighted to have a total of five winners for this award – well done!”

All entries are anonymous for judging, marked only by an entry code for identification. Successful entries came from a diversity of schools and regions throughout Australia.
