There are rumours of plans for a $70 million agribusiness park in Adelaide involving contract wine packager Portavin and some of its Chinese investors.

According to AFR, Portavin ships one million bottles of wine every month to China, and it is hoped the agribusiness could keep processing, cold storage, logistics and other operations all on one site, helping make the exporting of 'clean and green' produce to China and other Asian countries more efficient.

It would likely be built in Adelaide's outer northern industrial suburbs.

One of the investors is currently working on a $200 million retail centre in the city of Zibo, with one floor dedicated to premium food and wine brands from South Australia.

Portavin is a provider and user of reusable and recyclable packaging, primarily glass and cardboard, and was recently recognised as a high performer in the Australian Packaging Covenant (APC) awards.

With end-of-life recovery in mind, the group supplies lightweight bottles, reducing overall material use.

Portavin is considered Australasia’s largest independent wine services supplier.
