Melbourne-based printer and converter Pemara Labels has upgraded its in-house technology platforms with two significant new equipment investments to cater for growth in its digital printing and packaging businesses.

The privately-owned company recently became the first business in the region to install an HP WS6600 digital press.

Citing growing demand from customers for increased quality and flexibility, the company said the press offered a number of productivity and efficiency benefits including in-line priming and additional capacity.

It also means Pemara now has two presses printing cartons digitally.

“This is an exciting time for Pemara Labels Australia and is a great demonstration of our commitment to ongoing investment in technology,” general manager, Damien Prunty, said.

He said that in addition to the digital press, the company had also installed state-of-the-art high definition (HD) plate technology to support its pharmaceutical, healthcare and FMCG customers in Australia.

“HD flexo is a new evolution in plate imaging that brings much higher resolution to traditional flexographic plates,” Prunty said.

"HD flexo overcomes traditional quality limitations of the flexo process and will one day be the industry standard.”

Pemara operates four printing plants and five sales offices in SE Asia and Australia, employing over 250 staff.
