An agreement has been struck between the Packaging Council of Australia and the Printing Industries Association of Australia.

This is potentially the first step in the right direction for the troubled Packaging Council of Australia (PCA), with the Printing Industries Association of Australia (PIAA) announcing that it will open its doors, literally, to the PCA.

PCA CEO David Carter will move into the PIAA offices in Sydney “for the purpose of undertaking its business activities in a corporate environment”, according to the PIAA. The two associations are reportedly working out possible paths for collaboration and developing a beneficial relationship.

This follows the recent extraordinary general meeting, when the PCA called its members to decide the fate of the association. CEO David Carter said the PCA had been approached by “several associations interested in an alliance or merger”. The EGM was adjourned, Carter said, “to allow time to allow time necessary for us to fully understand the opportunity and potential synergy with like-minded associations."

New PIAA CEO Andrew Macaulay told Print 21: “We’re doing what a peak industry body should be doing by reaching out to all of the other industry associations in order to increase communication and collaboration across the entire sector.
“We need to be a dynamic, responsive peak industry organisation and we have the resources to help and support all of the specialty groups in the industry.”

PKN has not yet been able to reach David Carter for comment.
