The family-owned New Zealand company Hally Labels Group has acquired a majority shareholding in Australia's AC Labels, in a move both companies say will help grow their respective businesses in the Asia-Pacific region.

Hally Labels, founded in 1965, operates three manufacturing sites across NZ and Australia, employs approximately 200 people, and has sales throughout the South Pacific region.

Its group head office is located in Auckland, with its Australian business located in Brisbane.

AC Labels began as a family business in 1974. In 2004 the company's chief executive, former Avery Dennison Australia managing director Frank Gavrilos, in partnership with other senior staff acquired the business from the founding shareholders.

The business operates from Wetherill Park in Sydney with a sales network throughout Australia, employing approximately 50 people.

Hally Labels' chief executive Trevor Kamins said the investment offered the a unique opportunity to grow the company's business by incorporating a complementary business. He said it would also enable Hally to develop a greater share of the Australian labelling market, strengthen its operations, provide additional opportunities for staff, and a more secure future for the business through the strategic continuous growth program.

“The digital capability existing in AC Labels will complement the Hally Labels New Zealand digital press business and provide the Australian business with increased flexibility and an improved market offer,” he said.

AC Labels chief executive, Frank Gavrilos, said this investment will enable his business to continue its programme of growth, innovation and expansion through support from the existing skills and support, with Hally Labels complementing its existing capabilities.
