Olio Flaminio is a top tier Italian olive oil in a country where olive oil is taken very seriously. Its makers have been keeping its status high with some rather spectacular packaging for several years.

Last year’s packaging was a whimsical traffic light carry bag. The carry bag shape and simple pictorial design with its stylised street scene give it visual impact. That the bottle neck’s green wrapper pokes through the green traffic light bulb is functional. It holds the bottle securely in the package. The packaging was designed in-house.

This year, the packaging designer was Italian Giovanna Gigante from Milan. The oil is packaged in a recyclable and undyed cardboard container with a rather cleverly practical design. The packaging components fold and slot together perfectly without a lot of extraneous fasteners or glues.

The bottle is held snugly and safely inside, and the carry handle is inbuilt. Labeling on the packages is kept very simple - white and olive oil green ink, with minimal elements.

The packaging looks functional in isolation - a means of keeping the bottle safe on the way home – but has huge on-shelf impact, says try-me, and highlights the brand name because words and visual symbols on the pack are sparingly used.
