The Australian designed and made RapidX Digital label presses from Sydney's Rapid Machinery Company are to be distributed in the Americas by Florida company Imidia Digital Technologies following Imidia's acquisition of Rapid's parent company, Rapid Label USA, from Impression Technology Americas.

The acquisition will see Imidia focus on selling the Rapid technology in its home US market as well as the Latin America and Caribbean regions.

Imidia, established in 2002, is a regional distributor of digital print media and digital printing solutions for labels, textiles, large format and variable data.

“This is a strategic acquisition to expand our distribution of digital printing solutions in a segment that is experiencing continuous growth such as label printing,” Imidia's president, Heberto Pachon, said.

The general manager of Rapid in Australia, Nick Mansell, said the changeover in American distribution would enable Impression to focus on its core textile and apparel decorating businesses.

Impression Technology Europe will continue to distribute Rapid products in Europe, he said, noting the company had already helped expand sales in that continent after showcasing the RapidX technology at a number of regional trade shows (packagingnews.com.au, July 19).

Rapid developed the RapidX presses in Sydney, building on the US-owned Memjet MEMS-based inkjet technology.
