General Mills France has followed up its expanded Häagen-Dazs product line with a range of in-store cloud-based 3D modelling and visualisation applications.

Called Perfect Shelf, the system allows retailers to provide realistic views of store aisles, including shelves, fixtures, products, lighting and promotional materials along with an immersive consumer shopping experience.

With the 3D experience platform designed by software company Dassault Systèmes, changes and approvals of assortment, product positioning, signage and promotional displays are made in real time.

“We selected Perfect Shelf to help us shape a new vision for the ice cream category and achieve shelving-related growth solutions for our clients,” said General Mills France category trade management director Stanislas de Maleissye.

“This collaborative solution brings a new and innovative dimension to category management.”

The company's research found that few shoppers planned to buy ice cream before reaching the store, and out of 120 product categories, ice cream was the 27th most impulsive purchase.

Market growth relies heavily on product innovation, with more than 80 new products introduced on store shelves each year.
