A multimillion-dollar training and development centre aimed at accelerating digital printing has been launched in Singapore.

Headed up by HP, the Graphics Solutions Service (GSS) Learning Academy will provide a learning experience for over 1000 customers, production managers, engineers and operators from across the Asia Pactific and Japan over the next 12 months.

“We recognise that we are at the threshold of a huge digital transformation,” said GM of HP Asia Pacific and Japan's graphic solutions business, Michael Boyle.

“HP is committed to providing the necessary skills, development and support that will empower businesses, brands and print service providers across Asia Pacific and Japan to take advantage of the growth in digital printing market.”

HP has stated it will lead the "analog-to-digital transformation" across Asia Pacific and Japan by reinventing the approach to print and providing critical skills development and knowledge transfer.

"We continue to see strong customer adoptions with converters around the world having purchased more than 120 HP Indigo Series 4 large format digital presses for packaging since their release," Boyle said.

Singapore Economic Development Board director of electronics Pee Beng Kong said The Learning Academy would help upskill and equip the workforce with capabilities in digital printing through a blended learning model.

The curriculum of over 50 courses includes on-site hands-on-training, self-paced modular eLearning, instructor-led webinars and online assessment tools.

There will be courses on how digital printing can empower businesses to do more, as well as product training courses such as HP Indigo operator level 1, level 2 and color management.

The 1700 square-metre training facility at the HP Graphics Solutions Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Tuas has been renovated and includes seven training classrooms, hands-on Digital Printing Press workshops, remote monitoring and diagnostic command centre, and a next-generation product and solution training room.

The facility also showcases the latest printing solutions including HP Indigo Digital Presses, HP Sign and Display Presses and HP DesignJet Printers.
