If you're not convinced already, the organisers of FoodTech Qld have issued five good reasons to attend the show this month.

1. The seminars

FoodTech has announced a timetable of seminars led by industry experts which cover trending topics and issues pertinent to the food manufacturing industry.

Topics include the importance of pH in food management, emerging ingredient trends, the issue of energy efficiency, industry technology developments on infrastructure, and the increasing demand for food traceability across both industry and consumers.

2. Mix it with the country's top food scientists

Get up close and personal with the country's best food scientists when the 2016 AIFST Convention co-locates with FoodTech Qld.

The annual Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology (AISFT) National Convention is the premier food technology conference in Australia for industry, research, and government organisations locally and overseas.

Exploring the latest trends innovations, technologies, challenges and opportunities, the convention also provides delegates the chance to hear case studies first-hand.

Subjects range from sustainability and waste through to food safety, and the government's commitment to the food sector.

Program highlights include:

  • Andre Teixeira from CSIRO discussing Challenging the Innovation Thought Process
  • Elliot Chapple from Pozible presenting on Driving Digital Innovation Through Crowdsourcing
  • Maja Christiansen of Bruker discussing Mass Spec and Confirmation of Microbiological Pathogens.

3. Robots doing cool stuff

Robots are an increasingly important part of manufacturing, and the food manufacturing and processing industries are no exception.

Keen to meet one?

A clever Bot called Kuka will be showing off its skills, even holding an iPad for visitors to the Wiley stand. Wiley will also give one robot away at the show.

HMPS will also bring its robot YuMi to the show, the world's first truly collaborative dual-arm robot.

4. Go to the movies

Take some time out from the bustle of the show floor to head to the movies.

The creative team at Gelita has put together a short film detailing the amazing world of gel and its usage.

Titled You Can See, take the time to stop by and learn how you too can see the world through new eyes.

5. Learn how to clean up your act

The importance of food safety, food labelling, and food traceability cannot be underestimated.

From expert seminars to products on display from specialist providers, FoodTech Qld gives access and insight to the crucial tasks of food and microbial testing, cleaning products and methods, and equipment designed to increase safety and decrease problems.

Take control of the health of your business by accessing information on how to avoid the incredibly common problem of listeria, and products designed to make testing for food allergens easier.

FOODiQ Global has completed a 28-year analysis of Australian non-alcoholic drink sales, revealing a strong swing towards water and low- and no-sugar carbonated drinks for consumer choices in the beverage aisle. The study was commissioned by the Australian Beverages Council.

Australian Plant Proteins (APP) has launched Nothing Else, a direct-to-consumer brand offering faba bean and yellow pea protein isolates manufactured entirely at its Horsham, Victoria facility, making it the only vertically integrated plant protein isolate producer in the country with a consumer-facing product line.

Baiada Poultry has completed a national network infrastructure overhaul to strengthen operational resilience and cybersecurity visibility across its vertically integrated supply chain, from breeding farms and feed mills through to processing plants and distribution facilities.
