DuPont's 2016 Awards for Packaging Innovation recognised several global breakthroughs.

the Thermaset Blow Moulded PET Container for hot-fill, pasteurized food the highest accolade.

Produced by Graham Packaging in Pennsylvania, USA, the container is shatter-resistant, easy-to-hold, safe, and recyclable, and significantly reduces shipping, breakage and other manufacturing costs for the brand owner.

The newly inaugurated Diamond Finalist award, given to six companies, acknowledges the growing number of packaging innovations that excel in technological advancement, responsible packaging, and enhanced user experience.

The judges awarded a new Leadership in Innovation Award to MGI, also from the US.

The company was recognised for its digital spot UV and hot foiling technology for next-generation digital package decoration, with advancements in customisation, personalisation and cost-effectiveness.

An independent panel of packaging experts evaluated nearly 200 entries from more than 25 countries.

There were also five gold winners and nine silver winners based on excellence in one or two categories.

Judges noted a stronger emphasis this year on “the greater good”, with a focus shift from just package functionality to more solutions-based packaging.

“We also are seeing a real demand from consumers for on-pack communication that is authentic, not overwhelming,” Mintel Group's David Luttenberger said.

Diamond finalists included:

PepsiCo has appointed Alexia Horley to the role of chief executive officer for Australia and New Zealand Foods, taking over from Kyle Faulconer, who is returning to the US to take up the position of senior vice president at PepsiCo North America Commercial.

Four Australian wines – from Wirra Wirra Vineyards, Xanadu Wines, Barossa Old Vine Company, and Trentham Estate – have received Best in Show medals at the 2025 Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA).

The Supreme Court of Victoria has approved Treasury Wine Estates’ shareholder class action settlement, which had been announced in October last year. The proceeding was a consolidation of two class actions instigated in April and May 2020.
