A specialist in lamination, packaging and label products, Cosmo Films has been expanding rapidly in recent months.

The company's Export Oriented Unit (EOU) plant in Shendra, India, has now become self-sufficient as part of the company's second expansion phase and its overall strategy of expanding its supply footprint in global markets, including Australia.

Cosmo has installed two additional lines and is manufacturing its full range of specialty films for packaging, label and lamination applications under one roof.

The first addition was a two metre-wide chemical coating line for self-adhesive labels face stock, velvet and scuff-free lamination films, and high-barrier films. In-line vision inspection technology forms part of the installation to detect manufacturing defects during production.

Cosmo now has five chemical coating lines, taking the annual coating capacity of the company to 10,000 tonnes.

The second addition is a 2.4m-wide metalliser, which enables it to produce a complete range of metallised films, including the high-barrier metallised films. This addition takes the company's annual metallising capacity to 15,000 tonnes.

These changes, along with the existing extrusion coating lines, complement the 8.7 mtr BOPP line.

In terms of sustainability efforts, the plant has been designed to maximise the usage of natural light, leading to significant energy savings. It has a sophisticated ETP which ensures zero discharge of effluents, and the products coming out of the plant conform to all global compliance standards.
