Lifdek Corporation started with three men who had a vision for a cost-efficient shipping system for lightweight logistics, based on corrugated pallets which could be transported flat-packed and rapidly assembled on-site without glue or nails.

Their efforts have resulted in six revisions to their pallet design and five pending patents.

In addition to pallet design, Lifdek has developed hand-assembly tables and a small footprint, automatic pallet assembly machine.

Lifdek's representative in Oceania, Greg Nicholls, said Australian corrugated cardboard manufacturers are being licensed to produce a range of Lifdek pallet blanks to suit various market needs, using both single and double-wall corrugated board.

"Packaging supplies resellers can purchase Lifdek blanks from their local corrugator and sell these, together with hand-assembly tables, to smaller clients. A reseller with a Lifdek machine can assemble up to 100,000 pallets per year, operating one shift per day, with only one operator,” Nicholls said.

This year, the company expanded its pallet offerings with fractional size (half and quarter) pallets specially optimised for supporting retail point of purchase displays. Lifdek's quarter pallet weighs only 0.5 kg for the 600mm x 400mm version and is constructed from a single corrugated blank that folds together without the use of adhesives or staples, in less than 20 seconds.

Lifdek pallets have been developed to address the needs of the FMCG market by reducing incoming pallet freight and pallet storage costs by nearly 90 per cent. This can be achieved as pallets are received and stored flat. Lifdek pallets are recycled by the end receiver with other old corrugated boxes, generating recycling revenue while eliminating storing and loading pallets for pick-up. This one-way shipping approach eliminates the chance of cross-contamination from prior use, providing safety benefits for grocery and pharmaceutical applications as well.

One of Lifdek's key manufacturing and distributing partners is Axis Corrugated Container, a leading manufacturer of custom and specialty corrugated packaging.
