Australian wine in a can pioneer, Barokes, has bottled its idea - in aluminium.

And Barokes' new aluminum bottle wines have achieved extraordinary success at the 2014 Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Competition. Barokes took home a total of 17 awards. In fact, Australia had a fantastic year, winning 467 medals in total, and remains the most-awarded country in the competition.

It's rather pleasing for Barokes to be part of that, with its left-of-centre packaging concept being applauded in one of packaging's most conservative product segments. Barokes has spent more than a decade of research and development (since 1996) to create its purpose built products for the global wine market.

During this time, Barokes created the Vinsafe wine packaging system which allows wine to be canned with quality, product integrity, stability and longevity. Barokes was the first to create a complete wine packaging system based on a platform that involves all three key aspects of successfully putting wine in a can, that of the wine, the can and filling specifications. The Vinsafe wine packaging system is the world’s first globally patented wine in a can technology.

The new awards increase Barokes' tally of approximately 400 medals from international wine competitions for its canned wines in the past decade.

These awards are:

Two Trophies (Gold Medals) awarded to Barokes Bubbly Cabernet Shiraz for Best Wine with Peking Duck and Lovers Wine Bubbly White Wine for Best Wine with Chicken Tikka.

Seven Silver and eight Bronze medals awarded to Lovers Wine and Barokes Premium wines in the new bottle cans. These were awarded in both the wine and food matching categories.

To date Barokes has released five Barokes branded wines in the aluminium bottle format, including still Chardonnay and Cabernet Shiraz and Bubbly Chardonnay, Cabernet Shiraz and Rosé.

It has also released a Still Red and Bubbly White, Rosé and Moscato wines branded Lovers Wine in the bottle can format.

The most recent addition to Barokes slim bottle range has been the Lovers Wine Bubbly Moscato which was launched in September 2014. This won The Silver (wine) medal and a Bronze (food matching) medal.
