Having immense passion for the industry you're involved in is key to success and seizing opportunity.

This is a philosophy espoused by Currie Group's new technical product manager for the Labels & Packaging division, Jon Murray.

Murray (pictured) began his career in 1985 as an apprentice printing machinist with J Gadsdens.

"Working for a large company when I began my apprenticeship all those years ago, I was introduced to premium capital equipment, consumables, structures and best practices – valuable experiences I have drawn on throughout my career," Murray told PKN.

"In an effort to grow my knowledge and skill set, I have worked on a vast array of equipment, and have been heavily involved in continuous improvement programs, personal development courses, and most importantly, listening and learning from others," he adds.

After 18 years in the production environment, advancing from apprentice to print management, he realised the best way he could help other converters become more efficient was to pursue a career in sales.

"In sales I could help promote best practice through premium capital equipment and consumable products," Murray says.

Currie Group has been growing the L&P division not only through the product range of Omet, AB Graphics, AVT, HP and other partners, but also through internal changes structured around support.

"It is for this reason that I decided to take the position of Technical Product Manager," Murray says.

"I love the industry and even though I have been in it for over 30 years, I am still learning. The opportunity to be involved with HP excited me as I see digital printing as the way of the future. That said, conventional technology is still an integral part of the industry," Murray notes.

"The products I get to work with offer the best of both worlds to help our industry to continue to prosper."
