Members of the Australian Packaging Covenant (APC) have voted in favour of “an improved governance structure”.

In a meeting last week, which included members of the National Packaging Covenant Industry Association Incorporated (NPCIA), it was decided that the NPCIA – which manages and administers the Covenant – is converting to a public company limited by guarantee and regulated by the Australian Securities Investment Commission.

The new company will be called the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation Limited, and has an enhanced constitution and board structure.

NPCIA CEO Trish Hyde welcomed the conversion as an important step towards “stronger governance and more accountability”.

“This is a time of transformation for the Covenant, and it's vital we listen to our members to build a stronger and more relevant Covenant fit for the future,” she said.
