Amcor Rigid Plastics has opened an on-site bottle manufacturing operation to produce 50 million bottles a year for the V8 brand by Campbell's Soup.

The new Texas-based in-line operation is expected to produce hot-fillable polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles with the aim of delivering sustainability benefits such as reduced freight costs and carbon emissions.

The operation is an expansion of a long-running strategic partnership with Campbell’s.

Amcor invested $7 million to re-purpose 6000 square feet of the manufacturing facility, and the on-site operation will produce 46oz and 64oz PET containers for a variety of V8 vegetable juice products.

On-site production of hot-fill PET bottles will keep over 2000 truckloads of containers off the road each year and eliminate over 376 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions which are equivalent to 901,246 miles driven annually by an average passenger vehicle, according to Amcor.

Previously, Amcor supplied Campbell’s with PET containers from its Fort Worth manufacturing plant.

Since 2004, Amcor has operated an on-site blow molding operation at Campbell’s beverage production plant in Napoleon, Ohio where it produces 150 million hot-fill PET containers annually.

Amcor has similar hot-fill facilities located at several beverage filling plants throughout the US.
