In February 1964 a group of aerosol manufacturers got together in Melbourne to discuss how they could go about raising quality and safety standards in the then rapidly developing industry.
That group became the Aerosol Association of Australia, and March 2014 will mark its 50th anniversary. Fifty years deserves a little bit of looking back and a lot of looking forward, and that's exactly what the association is going to do.
aerosolsydney2014 runs from 1 April and will include an industry forum featuring international and local speakers, an invitation-only cocktail function to celebrate the association’s 50th, the Aerosol Industry Awards Gala Dinner, and the annual meeting of the Asian Aerosol Federation.
The awards have been running for twenty years. “Along the way we have fine-tuned the Awards Categories to reflect contemporary issues such as recycling (and now sustainability) and of course the entry criteria has been widened - first to New Zealand and for 2014 to the membership of the Asian Aerosol Federation - to reflect the regional interest and audience which they attract,” association executive director, Philip Fleming noted.
The 2014 categories are:
Award for Sustainability
Award for Innovation [Product or Processes]
Award for Innovation [Aerosol Package Design]
Award for Developing New Aerosol Markets
Aerosol Product of the Year
Applications close on 17 February and winners will be announced at the Gala Awards Dinner at Luna Park’s Crystal Palace Ballroom on 3 April.
A one-day Industry Forum at the National Maritime Museum on Thursday, 3 April, is the flagship event. Its theme is ensuring a sustainable future for the aerosol package and industry.
Local and international speakers will confront and debate issues such as changes in the retail environment, the challenges which global sourcing strategies present to local manufacturers, responding to the challenges of environmental regulation and ensuring a culture of innovation in your company.
Confirmed speakers include:
Rolf Bayersdorfer, president of the European Aerosol Federation (FEA);
Ian Folder, chief executive officer of Botanical Resources Australia (the world’s largest pyrethrum supplier);
Daniel Grimsey of Euromonitor;
Darrell Mann, a UK-based expert on innovation whose consulting clients include Intel, Hewlett Packard, and Procter & Gamble.
A special condensed version of the Association’s Introduction to Aerosol Technology Training Course will also be held on 1 April, with an optional program of factory tours available to course attendees on the following day.
Registrations for the course, forum, and awards dinner are all now open and everything you need to know is here.
