A new, high-stiffness polypropylene grade for use in metallisable BOPP film applications has been produced in Geelong, Victoria by LyondellBasell.

Adstif grade HA716J has been made in the Australian plant in response to a need for more regional solutions for LyondellBasell's global customer base.

“Customers report that the high stiffness allows for down-gauging, improved water vapour transmission rate performance, better hotfill performance and improved metallisation barrier levels,” LyondellBasell Australia's marketing manager James Harrington said.

Adstif HA716J also complements the recently developed Adstif HA3105 produced in Europe, allowing customers to source comparable grades at a local level.

Polypropylene resins are manufactured at Geelong from propylene feedstock obtained from local refineries and petrochemical plants. The plant also produces homopolymer polypropylene.

Polymers are used in customer applications such as film, fibre, industrial strapping, caps and closures, rigid and flexible packaging, and blow-moulded products.

LyondellBasell is one of the world’s largest plastics, chemical and refining companies, and manufactures products at 55 sites in 18 countries.
