US-based Rapids Paper + Packaging has expanded its Ecova portfolio with heat-sealable and functional barrier papers for flexible packaging applications.
The Ecova Barrier line combines heat sealability with barrier performance, with moisture barrier properties designed for products requiring greater resistance to moisture vapour transmission.
The commercially available structure has a moisture vapour transmission rate (MVTR) of less than 0.7g/100 in²/day (less than 10g/m²/day), and is intended for use in select food and consumer goods applications.
The company said its Ecova packaging structures use patented Paperlock technology and are designed to run on existing flexible packaging equipment. The structures are compatible with vertical and horizontal form-fill-seal equipment and pouching equipment, and are available as rollstock or premade pouches.
“We’re seeing significant interest from brands across a variety of market segments, all exploring a shift to paper-based packaging,” said John Wilson, director of marketing at Rapids Paper + Packaging.
“Their sustainability goals, however, can’t come at the expense of product protection. This expansion of the Ecova platform gives brands a practical path forward, combining heat sealability, compatibility with existing packaging equipment, and barrier performance in a commercially ready solution.”
Rapids Paper + Packaging provides papermaking, coating, printing and converting capabilities, with Ecova products available as rollstock or converted pouches.
