Amcor has teamed up with Fedrigoni to develop a recycle-ready flexible packaging solution for wet wipes across Europe, marking a step forward for sustainable packaging in the home and personal care sector.

The solution combines Amcor’s AmPrima Plus PE-based flow wrap with Fedrigoni’s semi-rigid PE-based label to create a mono-material pack that is certified as recyclable by both RecyClass and Institut cyclos-HTP. Designed to be compatible with existing polyethylene recycling streams across Europe, the pack addresses mounting regulatory and market pressure for recyclable packaging – notably the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which mandates all packaging be recyclable by 2030.

“This collaboration is a prime example of how innovation requires cooperation,” said Geoffrey Gendebien, Marketing Manager, Home & Personal Care at Amcor. “By combining the AmPrima wet wipe flow wrap with Fedrigoni’s semi-rigid label, we’ve achieved something special – a complete pack designed for recycling in the PE stream.”

The design offers functionality and durability for wet wipes while reducing environmental impact. According to Amcor’s ASSET life cycle assessment, certified by The Carbon Trust, the new pack cuts carbon footprint by up to 55% and reduces packaging weight by up to 15% compared to traditional multi-material packs. It can also lower Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) fees by as much as 35%.

Fedrigoni’s marketing and R&D director, Federico Lanzi, said: “Improving recycle-readiness in a challenging sector like home and personal care is key to the success of the PPWR. This solution reflects our commitment to customer-centric design and supports Fedrigoni’s ESG 2030 goal of 100% of materials being designed for optimal recyclability and end-of-life recovery.”

The AmPrima Plus wrap can also incorporate post-consumer recycled content, further supporting circularity goals in line with upcoming regulatory requirements.
