Coopers Brewery has selected Visy Logistics as its sole linehaul provider, with the partnership expected to reduce interstate truck movements by 6 per cent while managing more than 2,000 freight movements annually.
Under the agreement, Visy Logistics will transport Coopers Brewery products from Adelaide to Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. The companies say the distribution network will operate with 6 per cent fewer truck journeys each year following Visy Logistics' investment in new technology and assets.
The logistics provider has invested in 32 new assets, including prime movers and B-double combinations, and created 17 new roles in South Australia, including linehaul drivers, administrative and supervisory positions.
The national linehaul partnership includes 36-pallet trailer configurations replacing standard 34-pallet trailers, increasing payload capacity by 6 per cent and reducing the number of journeys required. It also includes trailer configurations designed to protect products in all weather conditions, safety technologies including roll stability systems, guardian seeing machines and retractable trailer stairs, Euro 6 prime movers that use 5 per cent less fuel than previous-generation Euro 5 vehicles, and rail and coastal shipping services into Western Australia to reduce transport emissions and truck kilometres.
Michael Shearer, managing director at Coopers Brewery, said, "Coopers beer sales are growing right across Australia and this partnership with Visy Logistics will help ensure our product continues to reach local bottleshops, pubs, clubs and the end consumer as efficiently and reliably as possible."
Wayne Boxshall, president of Visy Logistics Australia, said the partnership would support Coopers' national distribution network while reducing truck movements.
"Visy Logistics is excited to partner with a great Australian business built on quality, family values, and generations of experience. By finding a way to meet Coopers' Australia-wide distribution network with less truck movements, Visy Logistics has found a solution the takes trucks off the road, facilitates future growth and saves money for an iconic Australian brand."
