According to Peer Slynge, managing director at Kildespring, the packaging concept fits the company’s production set-up perfectly.

“We were in the process of replacing the glass jars for our ready meals with a lighter solution, when we were introduced to the Schur Star concept,” he explained.

“On top of that, we faced issues in the packing process for our ready-to-serve sauces, again and again. But Schur’s presentation of their packaging machine made the decision easy.

“As we need to pack a wide range of ready meals and convenience food, the versatility of the machine will be a great plus for us.’

The Schur Star packaging machine is widely used by Kildespring to pack root vegetables, ready meals – manually, semi-, or fully automatically. Switching between filling methods, bag formats, and product types takes place within a few minutes. The packaging machine can be combined with diverse weighing, filling, and process equipment, as well as equipment for labelling and marking.

Potatoes and spiced butter in the Schur Star Zip-Pop Bag are placed in two separate compartments and during preparation, the steam from the potatoes opens the compartments, and the butter in the top melts down over the potatoes. When potatoes are prepared traditionally, valuable minerals and vitamins are lost with the boiling water, but this gentle method retains the nutrients in the bag.

Slynge confirms that two new varieties are in the pipeline – ‘Root Vegetable Mix’ and ‘Sweet Potatoes’.

When introduced to the market, the Schur Star Zip-Pop bag was recognised for its innovative construction, and was a Packaging Innovation Award Winner at the 2019 CPMA Convention & Trade Show in Montreal.

The Schur Star Zip-Pop bag is available to consumers in Australia, USA, Lithuania and Spain.
