Syntegon, a processing and packaging equipment company, is set to showcase a range of solutions at Interpack. This will be the company's first appearance at the expo since its rebrand from Bosch Packaging Technologies.

Integrated Direct Handling: for cookies and crackers

Nupac, Syntegon's local agent, will also join the company at the event with managing director Peter Pontikis encouraging local Australian companies to “reach out for a tour of the stand, with introductions to the experts and an overview of the exciting new IDH system”.

Syntegon says its IDH (Intelligent Direct Handling) system is set to be one of the highlights of its stand, featuring pick-and-place technology designed to handle and portion cookies and crackers with maximum efficiency and minimal footprint.

According to the company, the IDH system features a design based on linear motors, vacuum pickers, and an integrated vision system that detects the position and shape of the products. Syntegon says this provides gentle product handling and high output, allowing for loading of different products in both flat and on-edge positions. The number of vacuum pickers can also be adjusted, depending on the respective product and production volume, providing product and pack style flexibility.

“With the IDH, we are launching a compact and flexible solution that offers manufacturers a variety of options for packaging different product shapes and sizes. Cookies and crackers are picked directly from the process belt and placed into trays or the infeed of the downstream flow wrapping machine either on-edge or flat. This allowed us to omit long belts with chicanes and make the system design even more flexible,” explains Daniel Bossel, product manager at Syntegon.

Syntegon claims that the space-saving design not only minimises conveying distances, but also allows for new system layouts traditionally used in bar production. It says that despite its compact dimensions, the IDH achieves a maximum output rate of up to 800 products per minute – combined with its low reject rate and short downtimes, this ensures high overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

“The Syntegon IDH complements the Syntegon RPP pick-and-place platform launched in 2021 perfectly,” Bossel explains.

“While the RPP's delta robots pick up to 120 products per minute from a narrow belt, the IDH is ideal for higher volumes and particularly wide process belts. With our comprehensive portfolio for the cookie and cracker industry, we are able to offer our customers tailored system solutions with a low TCO from a single source,” Bossel says.

For those heading to Interpack in May this year, the Syntegon stand is located in Hall 6, stand A31-B31. The IDH will be on display, showcasing the future of pick-and-place technology.
